Stauroneis rectangularis Greg. 1854; Navicula pupula var. rectangularis (Greg.) Grun. in Cl. & Grun. 1880; Navicula pupula var. bacillaroides Grun. in Cl. & Grun. 1880; Hustedt (1961) recognizes this as a form rather than a variety of Navicula pupula

Description:
Valve is linear in general outline, slightly swollen in the middle portion; ends are broadly rounded, sometimes appearing slightly rostrate; striae as in nominate variety; length-to-breadth ratio, about 4:1; length of the same range as the nominate variety
