Cells drum-shaped with numerous disc-shaped chloroplasts, dificult to see. Valves circular, 10-60µm in diameter, divided into two distinct concentric zones. The diameter of the central field with size of specimen, occupies 1/2 to 2/3 of cell diameter.Striae ca.10-12 in 10µm.
