Description:
Frustule is usually seen in girdle view, linear with valve swollen and notched in central portion, sometimes with slightly swollen apices, and slightly ventrally bent ends; valve is sharply bent, with one bend apparent in girdle view, the other causing the raphe to lie on the edge of the valve in girdle view; raphe has no distinct nodules, appearing notched in the middle due to the valve shape; costae are well-developed, usually with 2-3 (sometimes 1) rows of alveoli between the costae (6-8 in 10µm); 12-16 rows of alveoli in 10µm; length is 80-300µm, breadth is 18-30µm (frustule), 8-11 (valve)
