Valve is rhombic-lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate with rapidly tapering apices (cf. var. thermalis); raphe is filiform with marked central pore; axial area is straight and narrow, leading to a small, rhombic central area; striae is radial, becoming convergent at the poles (transapical striae "brachysira-type"); length is 12-ca.45(?50 or more) µm, breadth is 4.5-8(?10)µm
