Dataset title: Water Depths from the Taylor Slough, Everglades National Park (FCE LTER), Florida, USA, August 1999 - ongoing Dataset ID: PHY_Rubio_002 Research type: Long-term Physical Dataset Creator Name: Dr. Tiffany Troxler Address: Florida International University University Park OE 148 Miami, FL 33199 USA Phone: 305-348-1453 Fax: 305-348-4096 Email: troxlert@fiu.edu URL: http://wetland.fiu.edu/ Name: Dr. Daniel Childers Address: Arizona State University PO Box 875502 Tempe, AZ 85287 USA Phone: 480-965-2320 Fax: 480-965-8087 Email: dan.childers@asu.edu Dataset Abstract Water depth is recorded at least hourly at TS/Ph1a, TS/Ph2 and TS/Ph3. Water depth is measured with acoustic water level gages that digitally record relative water height relative to the local soil surface. Geographic Coverage Study Extent Description The Study Extent of this dataset includes two sites in Taylor Slough, Everglades National Park, South Florida Bounding Coordinates Geographic description: FCE LTER Site TS/Ph1a West bounding coordinate: -80.590 East bounding coordinate: -80.590 North bounding coordinate: 25.424 South bounding coordinate: 25.424 Geographic description: FCE LTER Site TS/Ph2 West bounding coordinate: -80.607 East bounding coordinate: -80.607 North bounding coordinate: 25.404 South bounding coordinate: 25.404 Geographic description: FCE LTER Site TS/Ph3 West bounding coordinate: -80.663 East bounding coordinate: -80.663 North bounding coordinate: 25.252 South bounding coordinate: 25.252 Geographic description: FCE LTER Site TS/Ph8 West bounding coordinate: -80.525 East bounding coordinate: -80.525 North bounding coordinate: 25.233 South bounding coordinate: 25.233 FCE LTER Sites: TS/Ph2,TS/Ph3, TS/Ph8, TS/Ph1a Temporal Coverage Start Date: 1999-08-04 End Date: 2022-12-31 Data Table Entity Name: PHY_Rubio_002.csv Entity Description: Water Depths from the Taylor Slough, Everglades National Park, South Florida Object Name: PHY_Rubio_002.csv Data Format Number of Header Lines: 1 Attribute Orientation: column Field Delimiter: , Number of Records: Attributes Attribute Name: SITENAME Attribute Label: sitename Attribute Definition: Name of LTER site Storage Type: text Measurement Scale: Name of LTER site Missing Value Code: Attribute Name: Date Attribute Label: date Attribute Definition: Collection date Storage Type: datetime Measurement Scale: Missing Value Code: Attribute Name: WaterDepth Attribute Label: Mean daily water depth Attribute Definition: Mean daily water depth Storage Type: data Measurement Scale: Units: centimeter Precision: 0.01 Number Type: real Missing Value Code: -9999.00 (Value will never be recorded ) Methods Sampling Description Ultrasonic water level recorders are placed at each site. The recorders collect water level readings every hour. The data is collected from the water level recorder using an HP 48G+ calculator on a monthly basis. To make a daily water depth reading, all numbers are downloaded into Microsoft Excel, and all the readings from a day are averaged. Water depth data is then transformed from inches to centimeters by multiplying the numbers by 2.54. Data from 29-Aug-97 to 25-May-00 were collected using a Richards Type Water Level Recorder. From 31-Aug-00 to 12-Oct-00 both the Richards Type and Ultrasonic water level recorders collected water level data to calibrate data from the Richards Type Water Level Recorder. A regression of data from both recorders was performed to calibrate data from the Richards Type Water Level Recorder to the Ultrasonic water level recorder data. From June 2004, water levels are recorded using an Infinities Pressure water level gauge. The new device was calibrated to the values from the Acoustic before removal. Method Step Description . Instrumentation Infinities USA, INC Ultrasonic water level recorders Model #220 HP 48G+ calculator Dell 3800 notebook Richards Type Water Level Recorder Model 6511 Infinities USA, INC Pressure water level recorders Quality Control Data that is downloaded from the Infinities water level gauges (WLG) is first checked for "Out of Range" values (they are deleted) (using the "Go To" command). Then the data is checked for negatives (values given especially during dry season). Negatives that are found are converted to zeros (modified Find and Replace). Next the data is checked for peaks and valleys (values that are found to be excessively high or low). Before the data is averaged per day the last data check is to see if a negative number (now a zero) causes a peak or valley (which are deleted as a peak or valley). The next several formulas are used for these checks, averaging the data set, and anomoly investigation: [=IF({time}=0,AVERAGE({24 values}),"")], [=IF(COUNT({24 values})>=22,"",{date at zero time})], [=IF(COUNT(D8:D10)>=2,IF(OR(ABS(D8-D9)<2,ABS(D9-D10)<2,D9=""),""),"")], [=IF(ISNUMBER(D9),IF(D9<>0,"",IF(AND(ABS(D9-D8)<2,ABS(D9-D10)<2),"")),"")].
