Rain level data are collected using ISCO rain level gages attached to ISCO autosamplers, which also act as dataloggers. We condense these data into daily cumulative rainfall, although hourly rain level data are also available. Geographic Coverage Study Extent Description The Study Extent of this dataset includes two of the FCE Taylor Slough research sites just outside Everglades National Park, South Florida Bounding Coordinates Geographic description: Data were collected in the Taylor Slough, just outside Everglades National Park, South Florida West bounding coordinate: -80.522 East bounding coordinate: -80.520 North bounding coordinate: 25.315 South bounding coordinate: 25.295 Geographic description: Florida Coastal Everglades LTER Study Area: South Florida, Everglades National Park, and Florida Bay West bounding coordinate: -81.078 East bounding coordinate: -80.490 North bounding coordinate: 25.761 South bounding coordinate: 24.913 FCE LTER Sites: TS/Ph4, TS/Ph5 All Sites Geographic Description:FCE LTER Site TS/Ph4 Longitude:-80.522 Latitude:25.315 Geographic Description:FCE LTER Site TS/Ph5 Longitude:-80.520 Latitude:25.295 Temporal Coverage Start Date: 2000-08-31 End Date: 2006-12-19 Data Table Entity Name: PHY_Rondeau_001 Entity Description: Precipitation from the Taylor Slough, just outside Everglades National Park, South Florida Object Name: PHY_Rondeau_001 Data Format Number of Header Lines: 1 Attribute Orientation: column Field Delimiter: , Number of Records: Attributes Attribute Name: SITENAME Attribute Label: sitename Attribute Definition: Name of LTER site Storage Type: text Measurement Scale: Name of LTER site Missing Value Code: Attribute Name: Date Attribute Label: date Attribute Definition: Collection date Storage Type: datetime Measurement Scale: Missing Value Code: Attribute Name: Precipitation Attribute Label: precipitation Attribute Definition: precipitation Storage Type: data Measurement Scale: Units: centimetersPerDay Precision: 0.01 Number Type: real Missing Value Code: -9999.00 (Value will never be recorded ) Methods Sampling Description Rain level recorders are connected to ISCO autosamplers. The accuracy of the rain level recorders are 0.01 in. The autosampler queries the rain level recorder at least every 30 minutes for rain data. The rain level data is downloaded from the ISCO autosampler using a Dell 3800 laptop. The software used to download the information is ISCO Flowlink 3.23. To get one rain level reading per day, all the rain data is downloaded into Micosoft Excel, and the readings for a day are summed. Rain data is then transformed from inches to centimeters by multiplying the numbers by 2.54. Formula used to sum daily rain is as follows: [=IF({hour column}=0,SUM({48 rows of rain values}),"")] Distribution Online distribution: http://fcelter.fiu.edu/perl/public_data_download.pl?datasetid=PHY_Rondeau_001.txt Intellectual Rights These data are classified as 'Type I' whereby original FCE LTER experimental data collected by individual FCE researchers are available for scientific purposes 2 years after collection. Maximum lock period = 2 years.
