MethodsSampling Description
Gas samples were taken from 6 sq. cm sections on individual leaves. These leaves were always sampled from the surface to about 2.5 m height and leaves were selected that received direct sunlight. Measure transpiration rates and photosynthesis rates of individual Red mangrove leaves under varying sample cell photosynthetically active irradiance levels. Jmax, the light-limited carboxylation rate, is determined from this procedure.
Method Step
Description
The flux of carbon dioxide and water vapor was monitored from a number of leaves. Fluxes were only measured once a steady state value was reached. This typically took about 30 seconds to 60 seconds to occur. Reference cell CO2 mixing ratio (in parts per million) was held at 380, leaf temperature at 30 C, light level (in micromol m-2 s-1) was sequentially decreased as follows, 2000, 1600, 1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400, 200, 100, 50, 20, 0.
